DescriptionLetters between Frederick Smith and Fred Bullock, Secretary of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons [RCVS]. The main subject of discussion is research carried out by Smith, with Bullock's assistance, regarding manuscript and literary sources of veterinary history during the sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This is presumably leading towards Smith's publication of 'Early History of Veterinary Literature' in 1913. Particular topics of interest are: manuscript sources held at the British Museum, and catalogues of collections at other institutions such as the Bibliotheque National in Paris, France; ancient veterinary and medical documents from Egyptian, Greek and Byzantine empires, and more recent translations; veterinary education, and a paper on the subject being prepared by Smith to deliver at the meeting of the National Veterinary Association; the publication of Smith's 'Veterinary History of War in South Africa' in the journal 'Veterinary Record'; matters relating to the RCVS and its library.
