DescriptionThese papers were collected together by Smith under the title 'Liver and Spleen XI' and relate to cases of horse illness and injury treated by Smith and other army veterinarians. The case notes record work carried out for the 12th Royal Lancers at Bangalore [Bengaluru] and Secunderabad [Sikandar-a-bad] in India from 1880-1884. Some of the case notes are by one person, presumed to be Smith himself, but there are some additional notes in other handwriting.

Injuries and illnesses treated include: congestion of the liver, jaundice.

The folder mostly contains printed articles from journals such as 'The British Medical Journal', 'The Veterinary Journal' and 'Science Progress', which discuss matters relating to the liver and spleen, with dates ranging from 1889-1928. There also are notes made from researching other sources. These articles were presumably added to the file by Smith, as he continued research on this subject later in his life.
