DescriptionThese papers were collected together by Smith under the title 'Liver' and relate to cases of horse illness and injury treated by Smith and other army veterinarians. The cases mostly involve horses belonging to the 12th Royal Lancers, based in Bangalore [Bengaluru] and Secunderabad [Sikandar-a-bad] in India, and date from 1880-1882. There are also some post-mortem examination reports. Most of the case notes are by one person, presumed to be Smith himself, but there are some notes in other handwriting, including notes from a case in Lucknow in 1878.

Illnesses treated include hepatic abscess, hepatitis, congested liver, poisoning, calcareous liver, twisted colon, gangrene.

Also enclosed in the folder are several paintings and sketches of the liver, and related anatomy.
